The contracts

Prior to the procurement of a new aircraft for the Swedish Air Force the Government required that the industries behind the JAS 39 Gripen integrated into a single contractor.

This was, for aircraft procurement, an entirely new way of working. FMV had previously negotiated separately with all the different parties, and was responsible for the development of subsystems.

With one-fifth stake each, Industrial Group JAS, IG JAS was formed in 1982. Although ownership in IG JAS is equally divided, the value of the delivered products was spread as follows

  • Saab AB, Gripen 66%
  • Volvo Aero Corporation AB 14%
  • Ericsson Microware Systems 11%
  • Ericsson Saab Avionics AB 6%
  •  Celsius Aerotech AB 3%

Many components of the Gripen come from contractors in the United States, Britain and France. In Sweden, we have with our special skills, the important task of integrating everything into one complete aircraft system.
