Start / Projects / Arkiv - Projekt / JAS 39 Gripen / The aircraft JAS 39 Gripen

The aircraft

The Gripen is designed to meet very high standards of safety, low stress for the pilot, and low operating costs. It is a small and economical aircraft with simplified maintenance and high availability. This means that the cost for each flight hour and the total lifetime cost is lower than for other similar aircraft systems.

The Gripen's built-in ability to handle different types of missions is vital for operational flexibility. The pilots are trained for all battle tasks, which means that each plane can be used for the particular task required at each moment.

The high level of digitalisation means flexibility, and facilitates changes in the future. Many changes can be quickly introduced by updating the software in the computers.
