The Archer system

Archer is a modern artillery indirect fire system

The FH77 BW L52 self-propelled howitzer, previously developed by BAE Systems Bofors AB, is at the very core of the project. BAE's experience in producing howitzers was a pivotal factor when selecting the supplier best suited to develop Archer.

Research study on dumper-truck chassis began in 1995 and FMV (the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration) placed a contract for detailed design work on Archer in 2006. Cooperation with Norway began in 2008. In March 2010, FMV, in collaboration with Norway's procurement agency FLO, decided to launch series production and final delivery of Archer.

At the end of 2013, Norway made the decision to withdraw as a partner in the venture.

In June 2014, FMV signed an amendment agreement with BAE Systems Bofors, which regulates deliveries to the Swedish Armed Forces. Delivery of the series to the Swedish Armed Forces is in progress.

In 2016, the government presented a proposal in the autumn budget bill, commissioning FMV to procure an additional 24 pieces for the Swedish Armed Forces previously intended for Norway.
